A "crosswalk" or "link" refers to a relationship between Medical procedure (CPT) and Diagnosis (ICD).
Medicare/Medicaid uses CPT/ICD relationship crosswalks to validate or substantiate medical necessity under LMRPs (Local Medicare Review Policy). Third Party payers also establish crosswalk tables for validating and auditing medical claims.
In brief, physicians (Part B) are paid by CPT procedure not diagnosis. In order to validate proper coding (e.g. the reason for the procedure) providers must specify a diagnosis. If the diagnosis does not support the procedure the claim may not get paid.
There are over 7,000 CPT codes and over 14,000 ICD codes. Crosscoder takes the guesswork out of medical coding.
Medicare and many private payers use CPT/ICD links to audit your coding - why not use a tool that may have the same links they have (and allow you add your own links and notes) and lower your audit exposure!
CrossCoder is being used by providers, administrators, private payers, managed care, HMO/PPO billing services and health care consultants.
CrossCoder links both ways! CPT to ICD or ICD to CPT!
